Résumé
This chapter examines the differences and similarities of understanding during communication between European and North American participants of the Montreal Forum on Intercultural Cities in May 2014, especially with regard to the use of terminology during this experimental trans-Atlantic event. Focusing on perceptions/meaning and the relational use of the words “native”, “stranger”, and “race”, the chapter investigates the deep conceptions of power relations shared but obscured by differences that are favored in the context of our respective social imaginaries.
